Liver Cirrhosis Causes

Liver cirrhosis or liver inflammation to such an extent that the liver cells begin to die/degenerate is a disease which has cast a shadow over most of the population today. When liver cirrhosis causes are contemplated, one cannot fail to see how alcohol plays an important role.

Common causes of liver cirrhosis include :
1. Infections like chronic Hepatitis B or C
2. Iron overload
3. Fatty liver disease
4. Metabolic diseases like Wilson’s disease

Liver function is completely deranged in liver cirrhosis causes and hence the tests indicate impairment. The blood flow to the liver tissue is restricted due to affected portal vein blood pressure.

Liver Cirrhosis Symptoms

In layman terms, cirrhosis of the liver is equivalent to a dying liver. Most commonly linked with alcoholics for the widespread propagation in movies and TV serials. Liver cirrhosis symptoms mark the point where flow of blood in the blood vessels to the hepatocytes is compromised to levels beyond reversal.

Symptoms of cirrhosis are :
1. Jaundice
2. Loss of appetite
3. Itching
4. Easy bruising
5. Insomnia

Though causes for cirrhosis of the liver are more chronic in duration, it is understood that the disease comes with a poor prognosis if advanced and can almost always lead to liver failure. Liver cirrhosis symptoms need to be detected well in time for a proper treatment. If the scarring of the liver has progressed to an irreversible stage then liver transplant is the only viable option.
